MAKING — CODE TO THING (COSMIC DUST)
part 5.2
Code to Thing, proved to be enlightening. The workshop's primary objective was to craft a 3D object in software by manipulating coordinates in space that delineate its form. The notion of coding a tangible object intrigued me profoundly; the ability to digitally configure diverse 3D shapes into physical entities was truly captivating!

Diving deeper into the distinction between "making" and "crafting" was particularly enlightening, as prior to the workshop, I hadn't discerned much disparity between the two: Making entails the creation of prototypes, extending beyond mere design and artistic expression, involving the utilization of various toolsets. Conversely, crafting leans more towards the creation of art through mediums such as calligraphy and printing.

In its entirety, the workshop proved to be highly engaging, offering hands-on activities that seamlessly integrated coding into our creative endeavors. The prospect of translating code into tangible objects never fails to amaze me; manipulating dimensions and 3D digital shapes was exceptionally exhilarating!

Aim:
Code To Thing is an exercise that looks at how code can be turned into a physical object. You will explore 3D space in code and create 3D objects from a given code template. You will then use 3D software to convert the 3D objects generated from the code into printable templates that you can handcraft into a physical 3D object. Furthermore, you will need to focus on proper documentation techniques and styles to create content of the 3D objects and design a folded A3 poster. Through these processes, you will be able to gain an understanding of working with digital and physical tools, as well as the workflow from digital to physical.

The Sims gem
Blending Process
It was fun to navigate using p5js to plant the respective coordinates to form the gem, subsequently dropping it into blender to create the folding points.
